About
Based on the sustainable interaction design framework by Professor Eli Blevis from the University of Bloomington, the task was to individually come up with a concept proposal that solves or addresses a problem through a sustainable design approach. The concept that is represented by a artifact or a service should also have the mind set of interaction, creativity, and sustainability. Use storyboards, images, documentation, and prototyping to help support your proposal as well as applying the concept of the cradle-to-cradle model for the arguments.
Process
For this project I explored the cradle-to-cradle model through the characteristics of Heirloom Design; specifically on the idea of Renewal and Disposal based off of Eli Blevis's Rubric Perspective of Design approach. By understanding the theory and applying these characteristics into my project, I proposed a service where: users can use old or forgotten devices/objects and combine it with a sustainable platform. Each casing or container would be unique and this would give old/unused products a new purpose. The idea aims to remove products from leading into the land fill and lean towards a closed system.
Researching on the importance of waste, biodegradable materials, and open system allowed me to support my reason's how I came about this project. Creating scenarios and information models to help visualize my concept along with finding examples from the DIY community to help further support my idea. Group critiques and questions were also involved for feedback and areas of improvement.
